Ray's Recovery

Looks like Raymond is coming along just well with his recovery. He has been doing his daily walking to get strength back into his muscles and to build up lung capacity. He should be getting pretty much fed up with hospital living by now and wanting to go on home.

While he has a long way to go, he at least is beginning to adapt. If you want to give him a call his number is:

Ray Update Nov 20th Evening

We got here about 2pm and went straight to the va hospital. Well, maybe we did take the scenic tour through parts of Asheville.

Raymonds surgery was completed about 1:15 and we got in to see him around 3pm. He was still groggy and couldn't speak because of the tubes and other devices connected to him. He came through real well with a triple bypass operation. The doctor suggested the usual, exercise and non-smoking. When we left Raymond in the room was giving us a thumb's up.

Tomorrow he will be able to talk and will be in a room other than ICU.. They expect that he will be able to go home in about 4 or 5 days.

Ray Update Nov 19th

Ray Update Tue Nov 18

Talked with Sharon while I was on my way home from work. What she knows at this time is that Raymond will be transported either tomorrow or Thursday from Johnson City, Tn to Asheville NC. If that happens then they will do the open heart surgery on Friday.

Here is the information that I googled for va hospital in Ashevlle:

1100 Tunnel RoadAsheville, NC 28805Phone: (828) 298-7911 or (800) 932-6408Fax: (828) 299-2502

If I learn of any thing different I will post.

Ray Update No 2

Just got off the phone with Raymond. They didn't tell hm a whole lot but he thinks they may send him to the VA hospital in Asheville NC. More than likely it will be open heart to fix the blockages. Mom is travelling back to Letcher county with Kristin.

Ray Update

They did the cath today and decided to send Raymond to the VA hospital in North Carolina. Now I will go online to find out where that is. Sheraye said there was quite a bit of blockage in his arteries.

Raymond & Va

It was good to see Raymond again. Also saw mom and Sharon.

Raymond, as always, was his usual hyper self. Sitting in the bed, more like a recliner, and inhaling some sort of white vapor. It's my understanding that it helps the breathing.

He talked about his cause for being there. Apparently, he had felt some discomfort in trying to breath and unusual feelings in his arms. This was enough to get him to go to the hospital in Whitesburg. There they checked him and dispatched an ambulance from the VA hospital in Johnson City, Tn to come pick him up and take him to their facility. Mom and Sharon followed in the car as Raymond waved at them from the back of the ambulance.

The whole time we talked to him, he was being Raymond. Fidgety all the time. So much so that he kept disconnecting the leads that monitored his vital signs. It is easy to tell when you hook up the wrong one. Lights begin to change colors on the monitors.

Of course, we had to share some family history with the nurse. She seemed awed by mom. I can understand that.

Raymond VA Hospital

Raymond is in the VA Hospital in Johnson City, Tn. Me, Jeanie, and Thelma will ride up there, beginning at 8am this morning.

Nothing too serious, just precautionary checks to see why he was having chest pains and shortness of breath.

According to Mapquest it will take about four hours. Will call if there is anything serious going on.

Having a little rain going on here. It will probably be doing that all the way up there. Not a problem.

Wellness Check Up

Well, finally got good word from Dr Wendt that my ecocardiogram looks good. The heart is strong and for me needs to be exercised. Which means in a nutshell that I can now get back on the treadmill each day for an hour to an hour and a half. But because I haven't been doing any type of physical activity since Aug 4th, I should start off slowly which I will do.

Yesterday I was a witness to an amazing scene of a tiny muscle that just kept pumping blood. I lay on the table and looked with the technician at my heart do its thing. I can't get over how that small organ can accomplish all that it does. I believe that helped me to see it in action.

When my defirilator shocked me for the second time, I went into a sort of anxiety mode for about 6 weeks. Had to start taking Atavan to help me sleep. When Jeanie uncovered the side effects of that drug, I decided not to attempt another renewal. That is one wicked drug. Beware of any anti-anxiety drug.

My yearly physical was a good report with the PSA (Prostate) being 1.4 which is a good number. It was down from 1.9 two years ago. So that was encouraging. My thyroid results were positive. My lipid readings were excellent except for triglycerides, which were high. No doubt from no exercize and too much sugar. So my assignment for the next 12 months is to exercise every day and get my weight from 210 to 180. That will also raise my hdl which is never high.

So today overall was just a wonderful day full of good news.

Rare Moments: Look Through the Rhetoric

Rare Moments: Look Through the Rhetoric

Look Through the Rhetoric

In 1978, Jim Jones led more than 900 people to suicide. What a powerful voice. What would happen if we had a voice like his today reaching out to 900 million people?

This election cycle finds me seeking out ways to help conservatives and liberals alike. I will be more active in getting out the republican voter and talking to associates and family to make sure they at least have the information necessary to make an informed vote.

It's hard to believe that in the 80's I was a democrate all the way. Between then and now, a lot of change has taken place. Not only with the democratic party, but also with me. I can no longer be pro-choice when I look at pictures of babies that are two weeks old and see the image of a heartbeat. I didn't leave the democratic party, they left me. Today its membership is being driven by organizations like ACORN, CodePink, NOW, moveon.org. Those people don't represent me at all.

Louisville Storm Sep 13 2008

I viewed some of the storm damage on the internet.  Unbelieveable what wind can do.  I also saw neighbor helping neighbor and that is always a heart warming sight.

I hope everyone is back to normal soon.

Jihad Denials

I am a subscriber to National Review. In this issue there was a copy of a DVD titled "Obsession-Radical Islam's War Against the West". I wasn't alarmed by too much within the documentary. I have known for some time that there is a holy war going on against anyone who doesn't believe (infidels). I have also known for some time that there are many within this great land of ours who are in denial.

Denial is not likely to go away. The Muslim Radicals are counting on that.

If you are interested in seeing part of the DVD, http://www.obsessionthemovie.com/

Google Chrome

Today I have installed a new web browser.  Google Chrome.

  • Since I wasn't sure about how it would react, I have chosen to put the app on the old laptop.  That way, I am not concerned about it crashing and burning.

Clean up old money

Okay, so it's time to empty the tall coke bottle and put the coins into wrappers. Actually, the bottle split so I have no choice. I spent a little over an hour and ended up with $139. If I do that ten days in a row I will be through and have over a thousand to squander. That bottle had about 8 years worth of loose change in it.

Clean Up Magazines

Finally got around to cleaning up some of the old magazines I have stashed here and there It's amazing how these things just keep piling up everywhere. I must stop and ask myself, why am I keeping these things? Perhaps I'm afraid they will suddenly stop publishing reading material of this sort. Maybe I spotted something I thought I wanted to come back to at some point in time. Or could it be that if I see them piling up, I might just quit spending good money on them? For whatever reason, I am turning over a new side of me. From now on, I will read the material, take notes if necessary, then send them off the next Tuesday for the trash pick up people to read.

While I do that, Jeanie has decided to go through some old photo's. She has found some great treasures. She will scan many of these and then put them onto a CD. As soon as that is done, I will post some of them on the Picassa site. We will be sure to share them.

Well, I am sitting here at the kitchen table snacking on pinto beans and potato salad while I write this. Jeanie did a great job on both.

Nice how I got from old mags to tasty pinto's, that's just me.

Happy Birthday Mary

It isn't often that I do this but I want to take this opportunity to wish a happy birthday to Mary K. Wallhausser.

I haven't met Mary very often but when I do I always leave impressed.

She has charm, wit, and personality. Those character traits always made me feel welcome in her presence.

She helped to nurture Karl, a son-in-law that I greatly admire. Together, Karl and Brenna have given us two beautiful children in Hannah and John.

Today is your day, Mary. The world is much different today than it was in 1933. It is a much better place to live and enjoy special moments like this with people like yourself who have been so impressionable to others.

Happy Birthday

Labor Day After

You would think that today would be one of high energy after a three day weekend. But instead, I feel just low on energy.

Yesterday started off at about 8:30 as we went north toward Ft Oglethorpe and Starbucks. Had to stop ad take pics of the crew that really gets into their work. We sat outside, sipping and watching traffic flow by on the main highway (hwy 2).

Then on to Thelma's place for some social time. Raymond, Sharon, and Mom stopped by later and we chatted for awhile. Mom will be staying in Letcher county with them until she gets homesick. I know this is off the subject but Ray has already replaced both cycle tires.

Leaving toward Ft Oglethorpe and O'Charley's for lunch. After enjoying the California Chicken Salad, we rode on over to Jeanie's cousin Jeff's place. He was cooking out. Hamburgers and hot dogs. That's why the stop at O'Charley's.

At Jeff's, there was Wanda, son Brandon, son Logan. Jeff's mother Marie, brother Mark. My step son Albert and his daughter Star, his girlfriend Crystal and son Zane. Star was the star of the show as she was making lots of attempts to learn to ride a bicycle without training wheels. We had a good time. We were way out in the country. Good ride because we were on the bike.

On the ride home we got lost, that seems to happen a lot on a bike for some reason. Saw some beautiful countryside. On roads that I had never travelled. Those usually turn out to be good things.

At home I loaded the photo's into he computer and will put them on Myspace.

Love to all

Stocking Full of Love

Ride started about 12:15 and lasted about 3 hours. We had a ball and the weather was nice. I have to admit we got on the wrong trail a couple of times but its all in fun. After a quick meal at the Civic Center we all heading off to other assignments. This was a first for each of us in Georgia. Rob had been on some poker runs while in Ohio.

Stocking Full of Love

I am off to be a part of a motorcycle Poker Run. My first ever and it will be for the children. Always a worthy cause. I hope to meet Rob there and I believe it may also be his first. Let's hope all goes well. Looks like it might get a little warm.
Bob and I had the intent to do one of these together. This is for you brother.

Palin Calin

I must admit that I am much more impressed with Senator McCain. Sarah Palin will be a great running mate and I will definitely be out voting.

Labor Day Weekend

Looks like a long weekend coming up and I plan to enjoy it while working on the Web Development course. It's true, I am still involved with it.

Ray and Sharon are coming down this weekend. I will probably use that as an opportunity to get the motorcycle out for a spin. Mom will be going back to Letcher County to stay with them for awhile. No one ever knows how long that is. But I expect she will be homesick within two weeks. Mom has done well with her therapy which was exercising for two days a week at Bradley Wellness Center. She has completed that stage of her recovery and the rest is up to her. Her heart is probably better than its been in a long time.

I want to see my baby sis Thelma this weekend also. She is working all weekend but maybe I can sneak in just before she goes to work.

Jennifer is going strong on the jewelry business and the product is appealing and fashionable. I have a lot of faith that Jenny will do what it takes to get this done.

New Motivation

After a visit to Dr Neises yesterday, I received a prescription for some blood pressure medicine. It is Lisinopril and I have taken it before. I took it for such a long time that I now wonder what made me not take it. At any rate, it does seem to be doing its thing, which is lowering my blood pressre. This am it was 110 over 74 with heatrate of 67. This evening it was 115 over 71 with heart rate of 68.

Also did not experience many of the flushes that I have been having.

The boy to the right is mesmerized by the carosel.

King Street Fair in Dalton

Jeanie and I walked the length of King Street in Dalton this am. We were looking for inspiration, opportunity, and direction. Many were happy to offer good suggestions. We did take some photo's and they will appear on this site. If I can't figure out how to get the slideshow working here, I will put them on Myspace.

Jenny Gale Creations Continued

Today I am taking a half day vacation so I can do two things; (1) practice web design (2) get ideas from others reading this as to what needs to be on the web site.

First things first. I am reviewing image creation today. Next week will be tables. Will have to also look at shopping cart technology. Security. Easy navigation guided by my well designed page.

I need some logo ideas to set up different scenario's for Jenny's review and approval.

Next, there must be some sort of packagng, shipping, insurance. Special sales to get people to spend more to cover shipping (maybe free).

Okay, as Brenna says, what else can we help with? Please!!!!! Pretty please!!!!!!!!!!

Something else to consider. Finding a piece of jewelry that can be promoted as a limited edition item (with higher price naturally).

If you think I am trying to generate more ideas, then you are on the right track.

Jenny Gale Creations

I just visited "Mommys World" and looked at all the photo's of Jennifer's jewelry. It is all so beautiful and special. Just one step at a time and before we know it, she will be the rage, everyone will have to have a "Jenny Gale" piece of jewelry.

So now, I have a project to work on. Each day after work I work on my Web development. Looks to me like this is perfect timing. By the time a Web site is needed, I should know enough to help.

I am excited ..

Elkhorn Kentucky

From the Aug 12, 08 issue of Coffee News: Pine Grove Church finds a two tone storage building on the roof of their church. No apparent reason to explain how it got there. Pastor Jeff Edwards thought it might be a message from God.

Begin Exercise Again

Just walked 3 miles on the treadmill over a period of 60 minutes. I did wear the heartrate monitor. It did not give a reading higher than 131 bpm. It did feel great to get past that point. I will work the exercise into my daily schedule again throughout the coming week.

Not exercising with no reduction in calorie intake kept me moving up the weight scale. I went from 194 to 204 in the past two weeks.

Weekend of Relaxation

Today is going to be one of quiet solitude. I know it now. Looking out the back door, across the green grass to the trees at the edge of the lot, my attention is captured by the blurred movement of humingbirds. In harmony, they appear to be performing a dance, as they manuever for position at the feeder. As soon as one lands, another rushes in to interrupt its feeding. This is an on-going routine throughout the day.

Isn't this pretty much what we humans do all week long at our job. We like to think of ourselves as sensitive to our surroundings. While at best, we make our choices, then adapt our surroundings to compliment the issue.

Jason, Jason, and Connor

What a wonderful time spent this weekend with my son Jason, grandsons Jason Jr and Connor. I noted that both young gentlemen exhibited character traits that were investigative, innovative, and instigative.

Each spent time exploring all things new and different. First was Kandi, a tiny toy poodle that will charm most anyone. Kandi, not being used to company, is visibly shy to the point that she will get nervous shakes. For this reason she was isolated most of the time, although that in itself will prevent her from ever being un-shy. On Saturday morning Connor got up early enough to pet her for awhile. They seemed to hit it off pretty good.

Then there was the pool. Certainly not new in their life, this one was in a different place at a different time. After locating some safety articles for both, we joined the fellows in the pool. I stayed in for perhaps 30 minutes but Jason and the boys spent about 2 hours. The heat of the day made it a very enjoyable experience.

Saturday afternoon we spent at Thelma's place. Mom, Judy, Thelma, Rob, Angie, Arwen, Jason, Jason, Connor, Jeanie, and myself spent time together. This was the first time for Connor to meet many members of the family. We cooked burgers and dogs outside on the grill. Jeanie did all the major prep work the day before so I really have to give her thanks for the wonderful time we all had.

Today we all slept in and the boys woke up excited about the new day. Quickly they donned their garb for the trip north to Louisville. A breakfast of waffles and some chocolate milk made by Jeanie got them through their breakfast. Then both were off to the digitized world with the PSP and Gameboy.

Now, they are on the road to Louisville. I always love these moments spent with family and wish them a safe trip home. I always look forward to the next visit.

No More

Bob passed on this morning about 2:30am.

Most of the family spent the past few days saying their individual farewells. Even so, it doesn't make it any easier to loose a brother and a truly magnificient human being.

I will miss him.

New Weekend Coming Up

Time to get out the shopping tools and look for a different kitchen table. It must also serve as a learning center. That means, comfort, ease of seeing the computer, ease of reading the book while typing web coding. May as well do the grocery shopping also while we are out.
